Some stories of the Bible continue to have relevance and value after we have heard them, read them, or enjoyed them even dozens of times. In many ways, they are like those old classics on the radio we hear from time to time. At the beginning of the song, our heart jumps, because it is one we know well, but have not heard for some time. Then we turn up the volume, close our eyes and just soak in the song. Or maybe if it is a more active song, we move around a bit or begin humming, even singing the words–I know its kind of an embarrassing thought, but I think since we have all done it, it's worth mentioning. And while the song may be from years ago, it still has value for us because it is a classic.
I have asked each of our Sunday School classes to send me their list of 5 favorite classic Bible stories. Between January 24 and the beginning of Lent, I will be preaching from those that are recommended to me as most relevant and fresh for our congregation. Each Sunday, I will be sure to mention which class chose that Sunday's particular classic so you don't want to miss it because it may have be your class. Plan on joining us and I am sure you will be blessed–now that's a classic thought!)
